Faceoff: The old vs the all-new Mitsubishi Montero

With the recent launch of the all-new Mitsubishi Montero Sport, we can’t help but wonder what changed. Does it have the same engine? Did it get bigger? Did Mitsubishi add more features? Here in the AutoDeal Face Off, we help you spot the difference between the two.

The Design

The 2016 Mitsubishi Montero Sport’s looks are meaner and bolder than its predecessor. Its front fascia comes with an attractive “Dynamic Shield” grille paired with attention-grabbing bumper and wheel arches. Daytime running lights and LED headlights are also available except for one variant – the base GLS model.

At its sides, you will notice that the new model sports a slimmer windows highlighted by sharp lines.

For the rear end, the 2016 Montero Sport feature head-turning tube-type LED combination taillights.

The interior

Aside from the exterior upgrade, the 2016 Montero Sport also boasts a restyled interior. This year’s model has a black cabin theme paired with silver accents.

The steering wheel and multimedia entertainment system are also updated. Mitsubishi also improved the dial type selector for the Super-Select II 4WD feature.

Dimensions

Compared to the outgoing model, the 2016 model is longer and lower. Mitsubishi added 90mm in body length, totaling to 4785 mm. The height however was lowered by 35 mm from the previous 1840mm with roof rails. In terms of width, expect the same measurement of 1815 mm.

The engine

The new Mitsubishi Montero Sport is now equipped with a 2.4-liter turbodiesel engine. Its new engine received 3 hp and 80 Nm of torque more than its previous 178 hp and 350 Nm of torque.
