Ford HQ

In celebration of their historic LM GTE Pro win at this year’s Le Mans 24 Hours race, Ford Motor Company recently put up a light show at their headquarters in Dearborn, Michigan. The building (a.k.a. the Glass House) lit up the night with the message, “Ford wins at Le Mans.”

The said victory was a hard-fought one for the Ford Chip Ganassi Racing team. They’ve fielded 4 GT racecars with 3 drivers each. Out of the 4 cars, it was the No. 68 Ford GT, driven by Joey Hand, that won the race. The 3 other Ford GT racecars also crossed the line and claimed their well-earned championship points.

Ford’s Le Mans 2016 win came exactly 50 years ago in 1966 when they won the race with a field of GT40 racecars. At the time, they clinched the top 3 podium positions, thus stopping the dominance of their rival, Ferrari.

This year’s victory reminded Le Mans followers of that rivalry as the No. 82 Ferrari kept the pressure on the No. 68 Ford until the 20th hour of the race.
