2017 Elantra Sport

After introducing the all-new Elantra last year, Hyundai Motor Company launched a follow-up that’s worth checking out – the 2017 Elantra Sport. It has received styling updates, chassis fix, and the same powerful engine of its sports coupe cousin, the Veloster Turbo.

The 2017 Elantra Sport is powered by a 1.6L turbocharged 4-cylinder engine, the same power plant that the Veloster uses. It can produce a maximum output of 200 hp and 285 Nm of torque. The Elantra Sport’s engine is mated either to a 6-speed manual transmission or a 7-speed dual clutch transmission with paddle shifters.

Moreover, its chassis also gets new stuff. It now has an individual multilink suspension at the back. This will elevate its driving dynamics and on-road feel. It will also make rear passengers more comfortable.

As for the exterior, the Elantra Sport will get horizontal fog lamps, instead of the rounded ones of the current variants. The vents around the lamps are also bigger, giving it a more striking look. The matte diffuser cladding at the rear bumper complement this look, as well as the dual exhaust pipes, reflectors, and fins. It will also be fitted with new shoes – a two-tone 20-spoke rim that’s perfect for the overall appearance of the car.

Inside, the all-new Elantra Sport can be controlled through a new flat bottom steering wheel for that extra sporty feel when driving. Moreover, it has sport seats with red contrast stitching to complete the vehicle’s overall flashy appeal.

Locally, the all-new Elantra is now available at the showrooms and we already had the chance to experience driving it in Cebu. The question is, when will this Sport variant reach our shores? We guess we just have to wait for the announcement from Hyundai Asia Resources, Inc. (HARI) but we’re hoping it won’t be long.
