Toyota-Mazda

Mazda Motor Corp. has discussed electric and connected vehicles with Toyota Motor Corp. This step is part of at least 10 potential areas for cooperation to cope up with the pace of technology in the automotive industry.

According to Mazda's executive vice president, Akira Marumoto, Mazda is currently having broad discussions with Toyota. However, he disagreed to disclose additional details on talks regarding the expansion of ties beyond their sharing of hybrid systems and production of compact cars in Mexico, which both companies have had since last year.

In Japan, the largest car manufacturers are joining forces to keep up with the drastic pace of technological challenges in the automotive industry. Just last month, Toyota and Suzuki Motor Corp has announced its partnership while Nissan Motor Co. acquired 34% stake in Mitsubishi Motors Corp.; and Toyota has bought Daihatsu Motor Co. earlier this year.

Moreover, Toyota is also the majority owner of Hino Motors Ltd., the largest shareholder in Fuji Heavy Industries Ltd. – Subaru's maker, and a stakeholder in Isuzu Motors Ltd.
