The Porsche Macan is basically the Cayenne’s smaller sibling in Porsche’s crossover lineup. Nestled in the compact luxury crossover segment, the Macan offers all the style and swagger of the Cayenne—but in a more manageable, city-friendly package. And don’t let its size fool you: this little powerhouse still packs plenty of punch when it comes to performance, luxury, and driving thrill.
Speaking of power, the Macan has made a bold leap for its second generation, ditching gasoline engines entirely in favor of a fully electric powertrain. Sure, car purists might shed a tear over a Porsche without that signature growl, but here’s the thing: the Macan Electric isn’t a downgrade. In many ways, it actually takes everything we loved about the original and cranks it up a notch.
Power at every level
In the gasoline-powered generation, the Macan lineup starts with a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine-powered variant that pushes 261 hp and 400 Nm of torque. The most powerful gasoline-powered Macan you can get is the GTS, which is powered by a twin-turbo V6 engine producing 434 hp and 550 Nm of torque.
The Macan Electric lineup starts with the base model, which has a single electric motor driving the rear wheels, developing 355 hp and 563 Nm of torque. The most powerful electric Macan available in the Philippines is the Macan Turbo, which has two electric motors that pump out 630 hp and 1,130 Nm of torque delivered to all four wheels.
So while the howl of the gasoline engine is gone with the Macan Electric, performance across the lineup has shot up significantly. The gasoline-powered Macan is still here for us to enjoy, but, in terms of raw power, the shift to electricity has given the Macan more muscle.
An upgraded interior experience
While there’s no question that the gasoline-powered Macan offers a refined driving and riding experience, the Macan Electric brings a few thoughtful upgrades of its own—ones we’d call genuine quality-of-life improvements over its gas-fed predecessor.
For starters, the EV has a slightly longer wheelbase, around 58 mm longer, which, while a small number, increases the legroom for the second row passengers. In addition, since the EV doesn’t require a long driveshaft travelling from the front to the rear to deliver power, the Macan EV gets a flat floor, allowing for more space.
Up front, the dash now includes a fully digital instrument cluster and an optional front-passenger display. Both the old and new models use a 10.9-inch touchscreen, but the EV’s infotainment steps up to a modern Android-based operating system. The previous interface still gets the job done, but the EV simply has better convenience features going for it.
In addition, Porsche decided not to go all-in on the no physical buttons on the dashboard (thankfully) for the Macan EV. So while the EV has a cleaner and simpler look than the gas-powered Macan, there are still knobs and buttons for easy access.
All in all, the Macan EV’s interior feels like a thoughtful evolution of the original—more modern, more spacious, and more user-friendly, without losing the tactile familiarity that Porsche loyalists appreciate.
The Porsche spirit is still alive and well
Earlier this year, we had the chance to get behind the wheel of the Porsche Macan 4 Electric. And while it’s not the full-fat Macan Turbo, the experience was more than enough to show us exactly how Porsche approaches its EVs. Whatever you expect a Porsche to feel like on the road, the Macan Electric absolutely delivers.
A launch from a standstill will pin you to your seat with its sheer force, and carving through winding roads is deeply satisfying thanks to its all-wheel-drive setup. Even though it’s a thoroughly modern, mostly digital EV, the drive feels raw, real, and genuinely engaging. If you’ve always thought EVs were distant or numb, a few minutes in the Macan Electric might just change your mind.
