The AutoDeal inquiries data for 2024 is in, and it has crowned a new leader—not only for the subcompact crossover segment but also for total inquiries: the Kia Sonet.

The Sonet entered the market in June 2024, presenting a new alternative to current subcompact crossovers. Thanks to its fresh looks, abundance of features, and competitive pricing, the Sonet quickly won over Filipino buyers.
With that said, let’s review the Kia Sonet once more to see what made it stand out in the market.
A breath of fresh air
On the exterior alone, it’s easy to see why the Sonet has won over a sizable portion of car buyers. Kia has done a superb job balancing aggressive styling with smooth curves. Its compact dimensions make it perfect for city driving and easy parking, while still offering ample interior space. Additionally, the Sonet is available in a variety of colors, including eye-catching two-tone options that enhance its unique aesthetic.

Key exterior highlights include sleek alloy wheels and striking lighting elements, such as LED headlights (with halogen reflectors for LX variants) and taillights. These features enhance the Sonet's stylish look and contribute to improved safety by providing better visibility and a commanding road presence.
Overall, the Kia Sonet’s design provides a fresh take on an otherwise diluted and often uninspired segment. Simply put, the Sonet is a car that will make you look back every time you park it.
The right mix of power and economy

The engine of the Kia Sonet is not by any means the most powerful in the world but it can certainly get the job done. The Kia Sonet comes equipped with a 1.5-liter naturally aspirated gasoline engine that produces 113 horsepower and 144 Nm of torque. Power is sent to the front wheels through a choice of either an Intelligent Variable Transmission (IVT) or a six-speed manual transmission.
In terms of fuel economy, the Kia Sonet delivers 9.5 to 10 km/l in city driving conditions. On the highway, it can achieve up to 20 km/l with a light foot and steady cruising. While the Sonet’s engine doesn’t feature a turbocharger, naturally aspirated engines come with their advantages. Power delivery is smooth, linear, and predictable, providing a consistent driving experience. Additionally, this type of engine tends to be simpler in design, making it easier and more cost-effective to maintain over time.
An array of features
The Kia Sonet comes packed with a variety of features that gradually increase as you move up the trim levels. Standard features in the Sonet include an eight-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto, a four-speaker sound system with two additional tweeters, manual air-conditioning with rear vents, a multifunction steering wheel, and a 4.2-inch TFT instrument cluster.
The range-topping SX variant takes things a step further with additions like single-zone automatic climate control, a 10-inch touchscreen display, a 10.25-inch TFT instrument cluster, and advanced driver assistance systems. For safety, the Sonet is equipped with two front SRS airbags, anti-lock brakes, a rear camera, rear parking sensors, an engine immobilizer, three-point seatbelts, and ISOFIX anchors as standard.

The top-tier SX variant features a host of advanced driver assistance systems, including Lane Keeping Assist (LKA), Lane Following Assist (LFA), Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist (FCA), Downhill Brake Control (DBC), High Beam Assist (HBA), and Driver Attention Warning (DAW). Additionally, all Sonet models come standard with disc brakes on all four wheels, ensuring reliable stopping power.

With a starting price of P758,000 and going up to P1,188,000 for the top-tier SX variant, it’s no surprise that the Sonet has captured the attention of car buyers across the country. Offering a competitive price alongside a wealth of advanced features, the Sonet provides an excellent value proposition for drivers seeking a well-equipped crossover that suits various needs.
