Established back in 2003, Tesla Inc. which was known as Tesla Motors Inc. at the time was built to create "a car manufacturer that is also a technology company" according to co-founder Martin Eberhard.
Today, Tesla Inc. has evolved into a multinational automotive and clean energy company, offering a diverse range of technologies—from electric vehicles (EVs) to innovative energy solutions for various applications. However, Tesla is primarily recognized for its EV lineup, known for its competitive pricing, exceptional quality, and impressive performance. With their recent official launch in the Philippines, let’s explore the Tesla vehicles available in our market.
Tesla Model 3
To start off, we have the Model 3, the smallest vehicle in the Tesla lineup. The Tesla Model 3 is a fully electric mid-size sedan (about the same size as the Mazda 6 or Toyota Camry) that combines performance, technology, and affordability. Designed for efficiency and everyday practicality, it delivers an impressive range, swift acceleration, and advanced software features. Offering three variants—Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD), Long Range (AWD), and Performance (AWD)—the Model 3 is Tesla's most accessible and versatile model.
Depending on the chosen variant, buyers can get 267 hp and 350 Nm with the standard RWD model and up to 510 hp and 600 Nm of torque with the top-of-the-line Performance variant. Inside, the interior of the Tesla Model 3 is modern, minimalist, and focused on technology. At the heart of the cabin is a large 15-inch touchscreen that controls nearly all vehicle functions, from climate control and navigation to entertainment and driving settings.
This minimalist approach eliminates traditional physical buttons and knobs, offering a clean, intuitive interface that is easily navigable through touch or voice commands. High-quality materials, including soft-touch surfaces and premium seating options, create a comfortable and stylish environment. The Model 3 accommodates up to five passengers with ample legroom and headroom, ensuring a spacious feel. As of writing, the Model 3 line starts at P2,109,000 with the RWD variant and goes up to ₱3,099,000 for the Performance model.
Tesla Model Y
Next on our list is the Tesla Model Y. The Model Y serves as the compact BEV crossover offering for Tesla, slotting under the much larger and more premium Model X. Pre-facelift, the Model Y’s exterior looks largely based on the Model 3 sedan, sporting the same smooth curvature but with some added heft to the roofline and trunk area.
Now, the entire body of the Tesla Model Y has been redesigned for this facelift, with the key differences lying in the headlight and taillight design. Tesla has dropped the rounded taillights for a much sleeker light bar at the back. The wheels and tires of the Model Y have also been redesigned to be more quiet and smoother when on the road. The cabin has also been outfitted with improved acoustic glass to make the riding experience even more quiet.
In terms of features, the Model Y is also a tech-fest like the Model 3. At the center of the interior is a 15-inch touchscreen display, which controls nearly all vehicle functions, including climate control, navigation, media, and vehicle settings. The vehicle is equipped with basic Autopilot as standard, which includes features like adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, and automatic lane changes. For those seeking even more advanced capabilities, the Full Self-Driving (FSD) package offers enhanced features such as self-parking and advanced navigation.
Wireless smartphone integration supports both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, while Premium Connectivity provides access to enhanced navigation, streamed media, and internet services. Safety is further enhanced with features like a rearview camera and Tesla’s Sentry Mode, which monitors the surroundings for potential security threats. Additionally, real-time energy monitoring helps optimize efficiency, while voice recognition allows for hands-free control of various vehicle functions. The Tesla Model Y seamlessly integrates technology to create a connected and futuristic driving experience.
The facelifted Tesla Model Y starts at P2,369,000 for the base RWD version. This variant offers a driving range of 466 kilometers and accelerates from zero to 100 kph in 5.9 seconds. For those seeking more performance, the Long Range AWD model is available at P2,689,000. With this version, you get dual motors, a longer driving range of 551 kilometers, and a faster zero-100 kph acceleration time of 4.3 seconds.
Upcoming?
On the Tesla Philippines website, vehicle pages for the Model X, Model S, and the Cybertruck can be found. However, it does mention that the specs provided are for the US model as these cars cannot be ordered for the Philippines yet. Still, the presence of these models on Tesla Philippines’ website suggests preparations for a local launch in the near future. Fingers crossed.
Excited? You can check out the specs and features of the Model Y and Model 3 on AutoDeal.com.ph. You can even watch our full review of the Model Y on our official YouTube channel.
