The numbers are finally out. With numerous car brands in the market today, only the best nameplates were able to secure their respective spots in the list of the top-selling car models, despite the decline of Philippine automotive sales by 15.22% in 2018.
Now, check out the top 10 best-selling cars in the Philippines this 2018. The jury, you ask? The car buyers, of course.
There are quite changes on the lineup but obviously, Toyota still dominated this scene. Acquiring its 17th consecutive Triple Crown under its belt, the Japanese brand is proudly sitting on its throne with six models chilling on top of the game, but there’s a twist. The Vios has regained its crown as the top-selling nameplate overall with 25,840 units sold, putting the Fortuner on its tail at second, which sold 23,082 units. In fact, the Vios is also the top player on the list of AutoDeal’s best-selling cars in 2018. The Vios’ total sales number is the combined result of the previous and current model.
It’s important to take note, though, that both Vios and Fortuner experienced a huge slash in numbers compared to their sales performance in 2017 that dropped by 29.7% and 41.8%, respectively.
Placed on the sixth spot last 2017, the Toyota Wigo managed to climb a few steps and is now settling in third place. This small achieved a notable improvement in sales with 21,234 units sold, which accounts to 10% increase compared to its 19,295 sales figure in 2017.
The Toyota Hilux, along with its new version Conquest, also contributed a remarkable sales increase of 24,2%, garnering 18,237 units last year versus its 14,688 sales in the market in 2017. This massive difference widely affects the ranking, moving the pickup’s name from eighth place to fourth standing.
From its previous third position in 2017, the Toyota Innova fell down to fifth place with 18,175 vehicles sold in 2018, which is 25.6% less from last year’s tally of 24,434 units. Meanwhile, this reliable MPV also got the same rank in AutoDeal’s list of top nameplates last year.
Behind the Innova is Toyota’s popular van, the Hiace, got the sixth place. This people-hauler also took a dip with 17,972 units sold last year versus it 2017’s sales figure of 21,178, resulting to a 15.1% sales drop.
The Mitsubishi Montero Sport, on the other hand, dropped two places below, taking the seventh ranking with 16,148 units compared to its 2017 sales performance of 19,917 units. Surprisingly, the Nissan Navara stirred up the competition as it is now planted in the eighth place. Despite not being on the list in the previous years, this newcomer showed off a great sales performance of 16,140 units sold. This new achievement of Nissan is a reflection of the brand’s double-digit-percentage growth in 2018.
Two Mitsubishis then battled up for the ninth and tenth position with the Mirage G4 owning 14,810 units and the Xpander that achieved 13,502 sales mark.
Comparing it with the 2017 list of top-selling vehicles, the Mitsubishi L300 and Isuzu mu-X were kicked out of top 10, while Toyota lost the Avanza in its steed.
