Along with the updated Vios, Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) has introduced the refreshed 2016 Yaris. It features a new engine, transmission system, and interior trims that fans of this sporty subcompact hatchback will surely love.
The biggest upgrade that the Yaris received is under its hood. The previous 1.3L and 1.5L VVT-i engines have been replaced with Dual VVT-i of the same sizes. TMP says the new engines are said to yield better fuel consumption, stronger engine output, and lesser fuel emissions.
To compare the figures, the new 1.3L Dual VVT-i engine can now produce up to 99 hp and 123 Nm of torque, as opposed to 85 hp and 121 Nm of torque of the previous power plant. On the other hand, the new 1.5L version can churn out a maximum output of 107 hp and 140 Nm of torque, as compared to the 107 hp and 141 Nm of its predecessor.
Although there was a slight decrease in the torque output of the 1.5L variant, its negligible compared to the next best thing that they injected into the new model – the Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) with Sequential Shift. This is a great replacement to the 4-speed gearbox of the old model because CVT has been regarded as the more efficient transmission system. The Sequential Shift made it even better as it gives you a 7-speed-like transmission, delivering a wider range of power and torque.
Lastly, the fabric seats of the 1.5L G AT Yaris has been updated with red stitching. Aside from that, all variants are now equipped with a 7-inch touchscreen head unit that has Bluetooth, voice control, and mirror link capabilities for smartphone pairing.
The new Toyota Yaris is now available in your local showrooms, with price tags that ranges from P743,000 to P883,000. TMP retains the current color options: Gray Metallic, Orange Metallic, Freedom White, Attitude Black, Silver Metallic, Red Mica Metallic, and Frozen Blue Metallic.
