Ford introduces all-new full-size SUV 2018 Expedition, with even smarter technology and lighter in weight. The vehicle now features an aluminum-alloy body, which makes it 136 kg lighter than its original weight – not to mention that it is now made bigger.
The front fascia is completely redesigned with the new headlamp and grille style, which is closely observed with the locally-available Explorer. More so, the said aluminum-alloy body of the 4th-generation Expedition is designed to reduce its weight without sacrificing strength. The redesigned high-strength steel frame, on the other hand, allows the SUV to attain improved off-road and strong-towing capabilities.
Meanwhile, the Expedition is more adaptable to make long and short trip adventures more comfortable. It is said that the full-size SUV is the first of its segment to feature sliding 2nd-row with tip-and-slide functionality. This provides ample amount of space, especially when it’s paired with the added legroom at the 3rd-row.
All said, there are more than 40 new features in the new Expedition. This includes class-exclusive enhanced active park assist for improved parking assistance, lane-keeping aid that reduces unintentional drifting, and collision avoidance detection system to help avoid obstructions. In addition, it also offers new connectivity features like wireless charging, Wifi hotspot, Sync 3 and Connect, and many more.
Under its hood, it is powered by a 3.5 L EcoBoost engine with a new 10-speed automatic transmission. Although there is no information yet about how its output is going to turn out, it is quite certain that it will generate more power than the locally-available outgoing model, which is equipped with 6-speed transmission.
Furthermore, a new electronic limited-slip differential with intelligent 4WD is also available on all models – all for an added towing power.
The all-new Expedition is available in XLT, Limited, and Platinum series. An XL version will also be available for public and government services. On the other hand, all series are available on the extended-length Expedition MAX to cater customer’s need for right interior space.
The Expedition was unveiled in Dallas, U.S. and it will be out in September. However, Ford Philippines has yet to confirm any detail about its availability on local market as of writing.
