The 2020 BMW 2-Series Gran Coupé makes its online debut in the Philippines with only one variant in the lineup, the 218i Sport. Available in four colors, Alpine White, Black Sapphire, Melbourne Red, and Mineral Grey, the sedan is ready for discerning customers who are in the market for a premium, well-engineered, and modern vehicle ready to take on new challenges in and out of the city.
Aimed towards young professionals looking for an entry-level luxury sedan, the BMW 2-Series’ feature-set should be enough for almost anyone’s daily requirements. Made in Germany, the sedan carries with it a lot of style and substance that can be seen and felt whether in the car or out of it.
Exterior
BMW states that the new 2-Series has a confident and sporty look about it. The low-slung stance of the vehicle harks to its athleticism. Small elements of style that pay homage to many two-door coupés are present and cannot be missed. The frameless doors, for example, are not normally found in sedans, but it makes a prominent appearance here on all four doors.
The grille is now larger allowing for more air to enter the engine bay. Also impressive are the LED headlights that automatically fire when needed, and feature manual leveling functions.
The rear lighting array is also inspired by other coupés in the BMW lineup, namely the 8-Series. The elongated red lenses give the rear profile a much more streamlined and wider look, which is a nice contrast to give the rather compact 2 Gran Coupé a more substantial presence.
On its side, you’re looking at a set of 17-inch wheels that are two-spoke and feature a two-tone color scheme that adds depth to an already handsome exterior.
Interior
Stepping inside the BMW 2-Series Gran Coupé is a treat for the senses. Sensatec, BMW’s premium upholstery, is inviting and reasonably pliant and very comfortable to sit in even during long stints of driving. Impressive too is the “no creak” interior materials and the logical and well-placed items in the interior. The iDrive system along with its famous control scheme makes a return, as does the brand’s digital shifter.
Total occupancy of this 2-Series is at 5, and it can also hold up to 430-liter worth of space in the rear trunk which can be expanded upon thanks to the 40-20-40 folding seats.
Engine and Chassis
Powering this subcompact sedan is a 1.5-liter turbocharged B38 engine that produces 138 hp and 220 Nm of torque mated to a 7-speed Steptronic double-clutch transmission that returns great performance paired with the chassis. As for the suspension, you’re looking at a strut and multi-link rear setup that is also complemented by BMW’s engineering prowess with regard to its UKL chassis’ rigidity.
Price
Priced at P2,990,000, the Gran Coupé 218i Sport is a German-made sedan that is modestly priced, and well-specced when it comes to tech and safety. It’s also the smallest sedan that you can purchase from the manufacturer at the time of this writing.
All models from BMW Philippines are available with a 5-year or 200,000 km warranty, whichever comes first, including this 2020 BMW 2-Series Gran Coupé 218i Sport.
