We have been waiting for the new Honda Accord to make landfall in the Philippines for quite some time now. Honda Cars Philippines, Inc. (HCPI) still hasn’t divulged any information about the next-generation Accord’s arrival. It is, however, good to know that our neighboring South East Asian neighbor, Indonesia, has officially launched the Accord 1.5L.
While Thailand was the first to receive the new Accord, Indonesia is even closer to us in terms of Honda releases. Evidence of this can be found in the Honda Brio’s introduction. Right after Indonesia received the unit, Honda Philippines followed suit, with a launch event in store for the media; which means we may be seeing this model soon enough.
Honda Prospect Motor (HPM) in Indonesia launched the 2020 Honda Accord 1.5L VTEC turbo engine with Honda sensing safety technology. The model stands as one of the longest-running nameplates in the segment of midsize passenger vehicles. The latest generation, now on its 10th iteration, features a wider stance, and a lighter unibody structure that is also more rigid.
The Honda Accord can now be availed of in Indonesia, with the 1.5L turbo engine that comes from the Honda Civic RS turbo variant. The model also comes with a CVT that allows the Accord to efficiently run. The engine’s performance in uprated from its compact sibling, boasting 187hp and 260 Nm of torque.
The interior features enhanced space, up by 48mm from the previous generation. You can also expect a light-colored interior with a seven-inch screen in the gauge cluster, which is only an inch smaller than the infotainment system which comes in at eight inches. The driver and passenger have motorized seats, while the rear passenger can enjoy two USB charging ports as well as a larger sunshade. Boot space is also larger than before at 573 liters.
The cabin is more sound-insulated than before. Honda has included key technologies such as the new Wheel Resonator that lowers the noise from the tires and underbody while driving. There is also an active noise cancellation (ANC) system, which plays a frequency that neutralizes the sounds coming from the exterior.
Honda is also including features that are expected in this vehicle’s segment: remote engine start, push start, walk away auto lock, electric parking brake, auto-dimming rearview mirror, rain-sensing windshield wipers, and more are all included in the package.
The 2020 Honda Accord comes with Honda’s sensing package as well. In terms of safety, it uses the ACE body structure for crash protection as well as six airbags, anti-lock brakes and electronic brakeforce distribution, brake assist, auto brake hold, hill start assist, motion adaptive electric power steering, vehicle stability assist, multi-angle rearview camera, auto high beam, lane watch, and new driver attention monitor.
The price in Indonesia starts at around P2,550,000 at the current exchange rates. Color options include White Pearl Platinum, Crystal Black Pearl, Modern Steel Metallic, and Lunar Silver Metallic. The all-new model comes with free periodic maintenance fee up to 50,000 kilometers or 4 years, in Indonesia.
This is a taste of things to come in the near future, when Honda Philippines does decide to grace us with the new Honda Accord. The specifications may more or less be the same, but with slight variations.
