Mazda has recently released the specifications and photos of the new Mazda2 Hatchback. The exterior looks pretty similar to the older model but with redesigned front and rear bumpers as well as a new grille and headlights.
A notable upgrade to the 2020 Mazda2 is that it now has an all-wheel-drive variant. In addition, the new Mazda2 now comes with a 1.8L diesel engine option – at least for the Japanese Market. No official word yet if this engine will make it into the Philippine market, but if ever, it will be a game-changer considering the affection of Filipinos to diesel-powered cars. The 2, however, still has the familiar 1.5L Skyactiv G engine powering it as an engine option.
Apart from the new engine option, the Mazda2 now has a new suspension system that helps improve vehicle handling as well as comfort and ride feel. It also has redesigned front seats that are six-way adjustable and comes with a memory function to make driving easier. An auto-dimming rear-view mirror and active driving display settings have been added, while the infotainment now supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
For performance, the Mazda2 gains G-Vectoring Control Plus (GVC Plus) which employs better handling and better stability at high speeds. This feature is usually found in higher-end models such as the recently-revealed Mazda6 Sports Wagon. Another added for fuel economy is the i-Eloop brake energy regeneration system. This feature is available on both the diesel and gas engines.
On top of this, the 2 comes with new safety features such as Mazda’s Radar Cruise Control with Stop & Go function for automatic transmission models. Lane-Keep Assist System is another notable feature and finally adaptive LED headlights which can be individually controlled to help with driver’s vision.
