Toyota Thailand officially unveils its newest vehicle to the lineup - the Corolla Cross. As the name implies, the all-new crossover is based on the Toyota Corolla Altis and utilizes the Japanese brand’s Toyota New Global Architecture-C (TNGA-C) platform.
Exterior
On the outside, the all-new Toyota Corolla cross comes with a similar look to that of its bigger brother the RAV4. It comes with sleek and long LED headlights as well as a large grille that comes with a scale pattern. At the sides, the crossover comes with a flat yet muscular look adding to its sporty appeal. Similar to that of its bigger brother the Toyota RAV4 the Corolla Cross comes with long and sleek taillights along with a sculpted rear end.
In terms of dimensions the Corolla Cross measures in at 4,460mm in length, 1,825mm in width, 1,620mm in height, and with a wheelbase of 2,640mm. This makes the vehicle 230mm shorter than its Corolla Altis sedan counterpart, 45mm wider, and 185mm taller.
Interior
On the inside, the Corolla Cross carries over the interior look and feel of its sedan counterpart. It still comes with a sizable infotainment system at the front and the familiar layout has been retained. Leather seats are still an option for the vehicle as well as a brown and black interior color option for the higher models.
Powertrain
The Corolla Cross is available with two powertrain options in Thailand. It comes with a 1.8-liter naturally aspirated gasoline motor that makes 140hp and 175nm of torque which is mated to a CVT. The other powertrain option is a hybrid drivetrain. This gives the vehicle a 600-volt electric motor that alone produces 72hp and 163nm of torque. This is then paired with a 1.8-liter gasoline engine that makes 98hp and 142 Nm of torque. Sending power to the front wheels for the hybrid model is Toyota’s e-CVT.
It is still unknown if Toyota Philippines will bring in the new model into the country. If the Japanese do decide to bring it in, the Corolla Cross will likely be slotted under the Toyota RAV4 and offer buyers the option of an affordable hybrid crossover to match the Corolla Altis hybrid sedan.
