Kia Philippines launches its latest crossover addition to its local lineup in the form of the Kia Stonic. The subcompact crossover brings with new urban-themed styling and new features that make the vehicle a great value for money purchase. To match its urban-themed aesthetic it also comes with a frugal gasoline engine that gives the vehicle more than enough power to quickly get up to highway speeds. Kia Stonic is the 11th model in the local vehicle lineup of the South Korean auto manufacturer.
Exterior
On the outside, you are greeted with Kia's familiar design language. The all-new Stonic comes with the brand’s signature tiger-nose grille at the front flanked on either side by sharp-looking LED projector headlights. The South Korean automaker has also given the vehicle a sporty look thanks to crease and cuts that give it an athletic vibe. Aside from a large intake grille found on the lower bumper the Stonic also comes with LED fog lights at least for the higher variants. Lower variants will still be getting fog lights, however, these will have halogen bulbs instead.
Moving on to the side of the vehicle and you are greeted by a blacked-out roof for certain models and bulging fenders that aid in making the compact vehicle look bigger than it is. Speaking of compact the Kia Stonic measures in a 4100mm in length, 1735mm in width, 1532mm in height, and comes with a wheelbase of 2570mm. Aside from that the crossover also gets black plastic cladding on the side, 16-inch wheels depending on the variant, and side mirror repeaters on the side.
At the rear of the Stonic, you get a nicely shaped tailgate with a crease just above the Kia logo to give it a brow which is flanked on either side by angular tail light housings that may remind you of another crossover in its segment. The reverse and signal lights are found at the center while both are surrounded by LED park and brake lights. The Kia Stonic also gets a rather large lower black plastic bumper that comes with reflectors and a silver faux skid plate that has a single tip exhaust poking out of it. Aside from that the South Korean subcompact also gets a roof-mounted integrated spoiler as well as black accents that stretch from the roof to the sides of the rear window.
The 2021 Kia Stonic comes available in the following colors: Clear White, Prime Red, and Extreme Blue. It also comes in two-tone options for the EX variants such as Flame Orange and Black, Flash Yellow, and Black, and finally, Clear White and Black.
Interior and tech
The inside of the 2021 Kia Stonic presents itself with a simple yet elegant design. You are greeted by a black interior with a gray headliner. The first thing that greets you when you sit in the driver’s seat is a set of brightly lit analog gauges along with an 8-inch infotainment system. Speaking of infotainment it comes standard for all variants in the range and comes with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto capabilities. You also get a three-spoke steering wheel design with audio and cruise controls for the higher trim models. Aside from that the crossover also comes with stability control for the top-end variants, as well as a reverse camera with adaptive guidelines to make maneuvering the vehicle easier.
Power
The 2021 Kia Stonic comes to the Philippine market with a 1.4-liter naturally aspirated gasoline engine that produces 94hp and 132 Nm of torque in its manual form and 99hp and 132 Nm of torque in its automatic transmission form. Transmission options for the subcompact crossover are a 5-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic transmission that sends power to the front wheels.
Safety
The Kia Stonic enters the local market equipped with dual airbags at the front, ABS with EBD, stability control for the higher tier models, and ISOFIX tethers as standard. While not class-leading it does put it on par with the rest of its competitors.
