It was earlier this year when the 2021 Mazda CX-5 was made available for the US market. Now, apart from the Japanese market also receiving those mild exterior and interior enhancements, the renowned compact crossover did gain 10 hp more on its 2.2-liter SkyActiv-D diesel engine. Respectively, the said mill now produces 197 hp while still retaining that 450 Nm of torque.
Going over the exterior of this crossover, the CX-5 then gains a new Black Tone Edition variant which is actually the same as the Carbon Edition being offered in North America. Special styling reinforcements include a few black details that are applied on the side mirrors and on the 19-inch alloy wheels. The following additions are then paired with the brand’s Polymetal Gray paint.
Inside is still that Mazda-fashioned interior that looks minimal yet elegant at the same time. There are, however, some key changes inside, as well. Including the new 10.25-inch infotainment system which is used on newer Mazda products such as the 3 and CX-30. Likewise, it does come with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and smartphone mirroring. Getting the Black Tone Edition CX-5 will also reward the cabin with its simpler black leather seats.
Apart from its more powerful 2.2-liter SkyActiv-D diesel option, the land of the rising sun also gets a slightly tweaked 6-speed automatic transmission which renders better acceleration and response. Like in our market, Japanese buyers also get the 2.5-liter and 2.0-liter SkyActiv-G gasoline mills as added options.
It may, however, take some time for us to receive these notable updates given that the Mazda CX-5 being sold locally are units sourced from Malaysia. Then again, we remain certain that even the uprated diesel engine will probably come here once Mazda Philippines finally decides to once again update its much-loved crossover.
