The 2021 Toyota Fortuner has officially gone on sale in the Philippines. While the SUV has been around in other markets for quite some time now the ASEAN New Car Assessment Program has gotten its hand on it and has thoroughly tested it. Through several crash tests, the refreshed Toyota Fortuner with its new features was able to get a 5-star safety rating.
Part of its success lies in the new technology that Toyota has put into its higher variants. With these newly added features, it has greatly improved the Fortuner’s safety rating.
NCAP safety rating breakdown
When NCAP tests vehicles it does so in 3 different main categories. The first is adult occupant safety, the second is child occupant protection, and the final category is safety assist technology.
When it comes to adult occupant protection the Fortuner comes with a total score of 34.03. This score is further broken down into the frontal impact test where it got a score of 14.53, the side impact test where it got a score of 16, and the head protection technology test where it got a score of 3.50.
Moving on to the child occupant protection the popular SUV got a score of 43.38. It is further broken down into the dynamic test where it got 23.60, a vehicle-based test where it got 9.00, and the installation test where it got a score of 10.78.
In the safety assist category, the Fortuner also did well coming in with a total score of 13.00. It scored well when it came to the effective braking and avoidance test with a score of 8.00. In other subcategories, the SUV also did well coming in with a score of 3.00 for seatbelt reminders, and 2.00 for advanced SATs. Where it got a zero was in the blind spot technology test as the vehicle does not come with it.
All in all the 2020 Toyota Fortuner was able to get a score of 87.46 just 7 points over the minimum required to get a 5-star rating. With such impressive scores, the Fortuner should definitely be on your SUV shortlist if you plan to buy one.
