The all-new 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander has earned a five-star rating from the Australasian New Car Assessment Program (ANCAP). Now in its fourth generation, Mitsubishi's flagship compact crossover continues to impress with its commitment to passenger safety.
ANCAP tested the 2.5-liter gasoline variants of the Outlander, recording favorable marks for each of the four assessment categories. The crossover appears to be particularly safe for kids, as with a 92 percent score it has earned the highest-ever recorded Child Occupant Protection rating under the 2020 ANCAP standard.
On top of that, the Outlander achieved 81 percent for Adult Occupant Protection, 81 percent for Vulnerable Road User Protection, and 83 percent for safety assist systems.
As with any safety test vehicle, the Outlander received a thorough battering. It achieved full marks for the side impact and oblique pole tests but had only “adequate to good” results during the frontal-offset and full-width crash tests. Its center airbag, designed to prevent passenger head collision in a side impact accident, lacked coverage and, as a consequence, faced a steep penalty. Despite the minor hiccups, the Mitsubishi Outlander is still among the safest vehicles tested under ANCAP’s latest protocols.
"The new Outlander offers an excellent safety package and is a comprehensive offering. Mitsubishi have clearly prioritised the safety of both vehicle occupants and other road users in the new Outlander, and should be applauded for this 5-star result."
Mitsubishi is clearly focused on promoting safety in its vehicles. It will be interesting to see the all-new Outlander in the Philippines, as it is not yet available locally. For now, we have the Outlander PHEV from the previous generation. It's a highly-capable plug-in hybrid vehicle with much to offer in terms of style and practicality. The 2021 Outlander PHEV sells for P2,998,000 to P3,020,000 for its special color options.
