The much-anticipated 2023 Honda Civic Type R is finally making its world debut on July 21, 2022. Having been teased by Honda since late last year, the next-gen hot hatch is expected to garner attention from fans both locally and internationally.
From what we’ve seen so far, the new Civic Type R looks like it will take major design cues from the 11th-generation Civic. This evolution includes a more mature look highlighted by new headlight and taillight designs. Despite having what some would call a toned-down look, the new Type R still retains much of what makes it attractive as a performance hatchback.
Honda has equipped the 2023 Civic Type R with a larger front grille and intakes reminiscent of the outgoing model. It also boasts a wider stance made more prominent by protruding front fenders. At the rear, it carries a center-mounted triple-exhaust setup to finish off its aggressive look.
We still don’t know a whole lot about what’s under the new Type R’s hood. According to speculations, it will likely pack a familiar 2.0-liter VTEC turbo engine with around 300 hp and 400 Nm of torque. Honda has reportedly fine-tuned the Civic Type R’s handling to make it the best-riding civic ever made.
The unveiling of the 2023 Civic Type R comes just in time as Honda is celebrating the Civic’s 50th anniversary. The Type R nameplate itself is going on 30 years this year. Over 27 million Civic units have been sold to date. It has become one of the most popular cars of all time. It will come as no surprise if the latest Civic Type R debuts to global acclaim.
For folks not looking for a performance-spec vehicle, the 2022 Honda Civic is available in the Philippines starting at P1,368,000.
