The challenge of creating the most fuel-efficient car is on at the Shell Eco-marathon 2024 in Lombok, with student teams from 12 countries, including the Philippines, taking part.
The Shell Eco-marathon Asia-Pacific and Middle East 2024 has started, where 78 student teams from 12 different countries have come together. The competition runs from July 3 to 6 at the Mandalika International Circuit in West Nusa Tenggara, where teams are showing off their innovative and energy-efficient vehicle designs. Among the competitors, seven teams from the Philippines are participating, including Cardinal One from Mapua University and Eco Archers from De La Salle University.
Held in Indonesia for the third year in a row, the event challenges students to devise, build, and drive the most energy-efficient car. The cars fall into two categories: Prototype, where the priority is on smooth, lightweight vehicles, and Urban Concept, which features structures more similar to today's standard cars. These vehicles are powered by either battery-electric, hydrogen fuel cells, or traditional internal combustion engines using various fuels.
Each team has worked hard to meet the strict safety and technical rules to qualify for the competition, with the goal of proving their vehicle can go the furthest on the least amount of fuel. So far, teams like UMindanao Wildcats from the University of Mindanao and Team Kasalag from Adamson University have passed these checks. Looking good so far, Philippines!
Beyond the race track, the Shell Eco-marathon is also a hub for educational and entrepreneurial activities. It includes Shell LiveWIRE, a program helping young energy entrepreneurs grow; Shell NXplorers, which teaches critical thinking and problem-solving; and the Shell Indonesia Women's Network, encouraging students to explore their potential.
While we await more updates from the race, you can explore the latest car models available in the Philippines at AutoDeal. You can view a wide range of cars from different brands in the Philippines and request a quote for any that interest you.
