It’s been a while since Ford released the current Explorer in the Philippines. But new documents hint that an updated version might be on the way.
Ford Philippines first launched the sixth-generation Explorer in the country in late 2021, just before the holiday season. It came with self-sealing tires at the time, which helped give drivers less to worry about in case of minor punctures. The 2021 Ford Explorer came with a new look inside and out. One of the biggest changes was that it switched to a rear-wheel-drive (RWD) platform. Inside, it had a roomy cabin, and buyers could go for captain seats in the second row. It was also equipped with Ford’s CoPilot360, which included several helpful driver-assist features.
Right now, the Ford Explorer still checks most boxes for a family car, especially if you’re heading out on a road trip. The 2024 model comes with seven drive modes thanks to the Terrain Management System. It runs on SYNC 3, which includes navigation, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto, and inside, it has a touchscreen LCD for controls and media.
Now, in 2025, it looks like a refreshed version could be arriving soon. This comes after the Land Transportation Office (LTO) released homologation documents for the Explorer Platinum 2.3L 4x4 AT. This same model has been sold locally since December 2021, but the timing and details suggest it could be the updated version shown in the U.S. last year.
According to the documents, as reported by AutoIndustriya, the updated Explorer will still run on a 2.3-liter EcoBoost turbocharged inline-four engine, with a displacement of 2,261 cc. It still makes 300 hp and 420 Nm of torque, and it’s still paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission.
The listed size of the updated model is 5,048 mm long, 2,004 mm wide, and 1,778 mm tall, with a 3,025 mm wheelbase. One big change is the minimum ground clearance, which is now listed at 157 mm—a noticeable drop from the current model’s 208 mm. It will still have seven seats and come with 20-inch alloy wheels wrapped in 255/55 series tires.
There’s a good chance the updated Explorer is just around the corner. Ford PH might already be working on something quietly, but we still don’t know when the official launch will happen. We’re just waiting to see when it’ll be made official. For now, take a look at the current Explorer and the full Ford lineup at AutoDeal.com.ph.
