The 2027 Nissan Z Nismo is getting a manual, along with a few more upgrades

Nissan’s refresh of the Z Nismo gives enthusiasts what they’ve been asking for.

In 2025, we reported that the Nissan Z NISMO would finally get a manual transmission. Nissan has now confirmed it will go on sale this summer in North America. With the GT-R discontinued, the Z and Z NISMO are now the brand’s only performance cars, and the arrival of a manual option gives enthusiasts something to enjoy while waiting for the next GT-R.

To give fans what they want and expect from a manual Z Nismo, they spared no expense to make it a great experience. Instead of carrying over the standard Z’s six-speed gearbox, Nissan’s NISMO division engineered a transmission tailored specifically for the flagship variant. It also features an upgraded clutch compared to the units used in the Sport and Performance trims.

Under the hood, the NISMO version of Nissan’s 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 continues to deliver 420 hp, a step up from the 400 hp found in non-NISMO models. The engine has also been recalibrated to give a sharper throttle response and improve sustained torque delivery. Nissan has also retuned its Active Sound Enhancement and Active Noise Cancellation systems, which now work together to heighten intake and exhaust noise when Sport mode is engaged.

Nissan Z Nismo Brakes

Braking performance gets an upgrade inspired by the Nissan GT-R. The NISMO Z now uses Akebono front brakes with two-piece rotors, improving both cooling and pad performance while cutting about 8.6 kg from the front end. That reduction prompted Nissan to make minor adjustments to the front dampers and steering rack, with the NISMO’s suspension retuned to suit the lighter front bias. The steering system itself has also been revised, lowering internal friction by around 20 percent for a smoother, more precise feel through corners with fewer driver inputs.

Nissan has also addressed an issue that track-focused drivers will appreciate. A redesigned fuel tank helps maintain a consistent fuel supply during high-G cornering, reducing the risk of fuel starvation during aggressive driving situations such as autocross or track days. This upgrade applies to all versions of the Z, so fun at the track is improved for everyone.

Nissan Z Nismo Interior

Tech updates include a new wireless charging pad available on both the Z Performance and NISMO. It supports the Qi2 standard, which means faster and more consistent charging. A built-in cooling fan helps manage heat during use, while magnetic alignment keeps compatible devices properly positioned. Output is rated at up to 15 watts, and Nissan says it now works with a wider range of devices.

For now, the updated Z NISMO has only been confirmed for a handful of markets. That said, there’s still a good chance Nissan brings the improved version to the Philippines.
