Just a few months ago, Volkswagen Philippines said that they’d be introducing the 8th generation Passat as their contender for the executive midsize sedan segment. Ladies and gentlemen, the wait is finally over.
Available in 2 variants, the Highline and Business Edition, both share the same 2.0L inline 4-cylinder TSI Turbocharged gasoline engine which is rated at 220 hp and 350 Nm of torque. This is mated to a 6-speed DSG transmission with a tiptronic feature for manual shifting.
At a glance, it’s easy to see how its designers went with a clean and luxurious theme in sculpting the Passat’s exterior. Its chrome accents and grooves along the Passat’s side panels combined with 18-inch alloy wheels complement the look.
Upon opening the door, the 2-tone leather seats and dashboard, spacious legroom continue the luxurious theme found outside. Aside from a panoramic sunroof and a 12-way adjustable driver’s seat, the Passat also features an Active Info Display Gauge.
The Highline which is priced at P2,253,000 comes standard with a 3-zone Climatronic Air Conditioning, Park Distance Control, XDS Differential Lock, “Keyless-Go” Entry (KESSY), and 8-speaker Audio System with iPod, USB, and Bluetooth connectivity. On the other hand, the premium Discover Pro with navigation system comes exclusive with the Business Edition which has a price tag of P2,759.000.
The Passat comes with a load of standard and advanced safety features. Not only does it have front, side, and curtain airbags, it also has LED headlights with dual U-shaped LED daytime running lights (DRL). Also, if in any case the driver shows signs of fatigue, the car’s Driver Alert System activates to signal the driver when it’s time to rest.
The Passat will come in several exterior and interior color combinations such as Crimson Red and St. Tropez, Oryx White/Iridium Grey Metallic and Titanium Black, and Deep Black Pearl/Black Oak Brown and Natural Brown.
