ACMobility, Basic Energy partner to expand EV charging for public transit

The Philippines' push toward electric public transport just got a boost. ACMobility, the Ayala Group's mobility arm and one of the country's top EV charging providers, has teamed up with Basic Energy Corporation to grow the charging infrastructure needed to keep electric buses running across the country.

The tie-up supports Basic Energy's Iwas Taas Pamasahe Transport Solutions Program, an initiative designed to help local transport operators shift to electric mobility without getting hit by rising fuel costs. Through the program, operators can get their hands on electric buses at zero upfront cost, with full ownership handed over after five years.

Basic Energy President and CEO Oscar De Venecia Jr. echoed that sentiment, calling the partnership a core piece of the company's broader goal of making transport more sustainable and accessible. He stated, “Our partnership with ACMobility is a vital component of Basic Energy’s mission to provide sustainable and accessible transport solutions for Filipinos. The rollout of EV charging infrastructure across our Total and EcoOil network strengthens the foundation needed to support the growing shift to electric public transport.”

This collaboration ties directly into the rollout of the Love E-Bus fleet, one of the flagship efforts under the program. To keep these buses running smoothly and minimize downtime, ACMobility plans to set up charging hubs along major routes, built to serve electric buses and private vehicles alike.

The next charging hub to rise will be located at the Total station along the northbound stretch of the South Luzon Expressway. The site will come equipped with a mix of charger types, from high-speed DC fast chargers built for quick top-ups to AC chargers meant for vehicles that need a longer charging window. Beyond that, the two companies are scouting several other locations to expand coverage. Mandaluyong City, Cainta, Barangka in Marikina, and the stretch along Sumulong Highway are all in the pipeline, aimed at improving access in the busier commuter zones of eastern Metro Manila.

Other key corridors are getting attention as well. Plans are already underway for charging stations along E. Rodriguez and Visayas Avenue in Quezon City, Newport City in Pasay, and EDSA, arguably the metro's most heavily traveled road.

It’s worth noting that this isn't the first time the two companies have worked together on this front. ACMobility and Basic Energy previously opened charging hubs at EcoOil Alabang and the Total station along the North Luzon Expressway, laying early groundwork for what's turning into a much larger charging network built specifically with public transport in mind.
