MG Philippines is rolling out the S5 EV, a compact electric crossover that ditches the usual front-wheel drive setup in favor of something a bit more engaging. Marketed under the tagline "Daily Drives, fully-charged," MG says the S5 is poised to be a practical everyday crossover that doesn't skimp on driving fun.
At the heart of the S5 EV is a rear-wheel-drive layout powered by a permanent-magnet synchronous motor producing 168 hp and 250 Nm of torque. MG paired this with a 49 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery, delivering up to 415 km of range on the NEDC cycle, or a more conservative 340 km under WLTP testing. Charging is handled through a CCS2 Combo Type 2 port, with DC fast charging capable of topping up the battery from 20 to 100 percent in about 24 minutes. AC charging takes longer at 8.5 hours for the same range. The S5 EV also comes with vehicle-to-load capability, letting owners power external devices straight from the car.
Five drive modes come standard: Normal, Sport, Comfort, Snow, and Custom, giving drivers some flexibility depending on road conditions or mood. One-pedal driving is also included, along with adjustable regenerative braking set to Low, Medium, Strong, or Adaptive.
On the topic of looks, the S5 EV is designed around MG’s "Wind Hunter" design philosophy, featuring an active grille shutter system meant to reduce drag and improve efficiency. Up front and at the back, racing flag-themed LED lighting gives the SUV a distinct signature, both for the daytime running lights and taillights. The exterior rides on 17-inch alloy wheels with aero fins, and buyers can pick from four colors: Andes Gray, Desert Sand Beige, Dover White, and Cosmic Silver.
Moving to the interior, the cabin centers around a 12.8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, plus a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster. Fabric seats come standard, with 6-way manual adjustment for the driver and 4-way for the front passenger. Rear seats fold 60:40, and cargo space is rated at 453 liters with the seats up, expanding to 1,441 liters when folded down, giving it more than a decent amount of room for weekend hauls.
Safety comes courtesy of MG Pilot, the brand's suite of driver assistance features. This includes autonomous emergency braking with pedestrian and cyclist detection, lane keeping assist, blind spot detection, rear cross traffic alert and braking, adaptive cruise control, and a driver monitoring system. The S5 EV also carries a five-star safety rating from both Euro NCAP and ANCAP, backed by seven airbags covering the driver, front passenger, front center, sides, and curtains.
The price for all this tech and space? The MG S5 EV is priced at P1,448,888. For a limited time only, MG will be offering an introductory price of P1,408,888 for its latest crossover. For an even better deal, those who visit the MG New Energy Tour 2026 from August 27–30, 2026 can get the MG S5 EV at a special price of P1,398,888, along with a free charging kit worth P30,000, which includes a 7 kW wallbox and a 3.3 kW portable charger. MG is also backing S5 EV owners with a 5-year or 100,000 km vehicle warranty, an eight-year or 160,000 km battery warranty, and a free first PMS at the 6th month mark.
With its rear-wheel drive layout, a solid range figure, and a generous features list, the MG S5 EV is aimed at giving buyers another serious option to consider in the EV crossover market. Check it out now on AutoDeal.com.ph along with MG Philippines’ full lineup of cars.
