Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross revealed as an EV with 215 hp and 600 km range, sharing parts with the Renault Scenic.

An eclipse is rare and exciting, and Mitsubishi wants to give off the same feeling with the all-electric Eclipse Cross. The Mitsubishi Eclipse name has taken on many roles through the years, starting as a sports coupe, then turning into a small tourer, later a compact crossover, and now an electric crossover.

For this new version, Mitsubishi worked closely with Renault. The Eclipse Cross is now largely based on the Renault Scenic E-Tech, sharing the same chassis and powertrain. While the middle profile looks very similar to the Scenic, Mitsubishi changed the front and rear styling to follow its current lineup. The nose carries the brand’s latest design, while the rear takes cues from models like the XForce and Destinator.

Underneath, the crossover carries an 87 kWh battery and a single electric motor mounted up front. It produces 215 hp and 300 Nm, sent to the front wheels. Mitsubishi says it can travel more than 600 km on a full charge. Charging can also be done quickly with up to 150 kW DC fast charging at public stations. Inside, the Eclipse Cross also shares most of its look with the Scenic. There is a 12.3-inch digital instrument panel and a matching 12.3-inch vertical infotainment screen. Other features include a full-size electrochromic glass roof that adjusts tint automatically, LED ambient lighting with 48 colors, and a luggage space that goes from 478 liters up to 1,670 liters with the seats folded.

For safety, the Eclipse Cross is equipped with Mitsubishi Intelligent-Pilot (MI-Pilot). This system combines adaptive cruise control and lane-centering for semi-autonomous driving in certain conditions. It also has automatic emergency braking and automatic high beams.

The new Eclipse Cross is mainly set for Europe at the moment, along with other models like the Colt, ASX, and Grandis. It may not arrive in the Philippines anytime soon, but there’s always a chance. In the meantime, you can see the current Mitsubishi lineup on AutoDeal.com.ph.
