Mitsubishi XRT Concept

If you may recall at this year's Bangkok International Motor Show, Mitsubishi Motors gave us our first look at the next-gen Triton, locally known as the Strada, through the XRT Concept. Though not many details aside from the exterior were provided with the XRT Concept, it did give us a sign that Mitsubishi is close to giving us a production version of the truck.

This Wednesday, Mitsubishi confirmed that the Triton will be launched this July, and it will be headlining a series of new cars that the Japanese automaker has in store for this year. In their brand presentation, Mitsubishi revealed the current pipeline of upcoming models, these include the Colt, the Triton, an HEV version of the Xpander, and an unnamed crossover. These cars will join the already unveiled ASX and the Delica Mini, an angry-looking Kei car that might have off-road capabilities.

Going back to the Triton, information regarding the truck is scarce as of writing, but it is rumored to share its platform with the Nissan Navara. Though pictures of the new Triton being tested in the Arctic Circle, Europe, and Thailand have cropped up on the internet in recent months, Mitsubishi is keeping the powertrain a closely guarded secret so it might take a while before we get powertrain specifications for the truck. The possible good news is that once the Triton officially launches, we won’t have to look far to scour information about the next-gen Navara as the two trucks might share the same platform and parts.

Additionally, considering that the near-production concept was decked out in Ralliart accessories, we might see these accessories offered in the future. The company plans to release the truck for sale in the upcoming fiscal year, with Thailand being the first market to receive it before expanding to the ASEAN region, pretty sweet for fans of the truck here in Southeast Asia.
