Remember Nissan’s Hyper Tourer Concept at the 2023 Japan Mobility Show? Two years later and the Japanese automaker has brought the crazy minivan concept to life with the all-new 2026 Nissan Elgrand.
Set to replace the aging third-generation Elgrand, first launched in 2010, this new model is built from the ground up. Side by side, nothing about the new Elgrand indicates it’s from the same lineup.
The exterior of the 2026 Elgrand employs the brand’s “Timeless Japanese Futurism” design philosophy, combining traditional craftsmanship with advanced modern technology. Its exterior exudes confidence, featuring a Kumiko-inspired grille motif that flows seamlessly into the sleek frontal light signature. The color palette includes Fuji Dawn, a new shade that captures the first light over Mount Fuji, and Shigoku, a deep red-purple tone that conveys elegance and sophistication.
Inside, the cabin offers a private, lounge-like atmosphere designed for ultimate comfort. Second-row passengers can relax in zero-gravity captain’s chairs upholstered in TailorFit leather, surrounded by refined woodgrain accents and Kumiko-patterned detailing on the doors and seat trims. At the front, dual 14.3-inch integrated displays combine driver information and infotainment functions, setting a new benchmark for the segment. A Bose 22-speaker premium audio system and 64-color ambient lighting complete the experience, creating an interior that is said to be both serene and luxurious, according to Nissan.
Powering the all-new Nissan Elgrand is the brand’s latest third-generation e-POWER hybrid system, developed exclusively for this model. The setup combines a newly engineered engine with a modular 5-in-1 electric powertrain, resulting in refined performance, quieter operation, and improved fuel efficiency.
The Elgrand also marks a milestone as the first vehicle in Nissan’s global lineup to feature the updated e-4ORCE electric four-wheel-drive system. Nissan says this system delivers exceptional handling and stability across all road conditions. If you’re expecting the four-wheel drive system of the Elgrand to provide off-road capability, you’d be wrong. The rear electric motor actively manages torque to reduce vehicle pitching during acceleration and braking, ensuring a smoother, more comfortable ride while minimizing motion sickness for passengers.
For those behind the wheel, the e-4ORCE system enhances driving enjoyment by utilizing rear motor torque during cornering, creating a more engaging and confident experience. Complementing this is Nissan’s Intelligent Dynamic Suspension, which minimizes body roll and helps maintain a flat, composed stance on the road.
On the technology front, the all-new Elgrand introduces Nissan’s latest ProPILOT 1 driver-assistance system, now supporting hands-off operation at speeds below 50 km/h. Drivers seeking even greater convenience can opt for ProPILOT 2.0, which enables hands-free highway driving and lane change assistance, making long-distance travel smoother, safer, and more relaxing.
If you’re excited, so are we, but there’s a catch. Nissan says the Elgrand is set to launch exclusively in its home market of Japan in 2026, with no indication that it will reach other markets such as the Philippines. Still, we remain hopeful that the new Elgrand will eventually arrive on our shores.
