BMW Group previewed the Concept 8 Series at this year’s Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este in Italy. The concept car serves as a prequel to the BMW 8 Series’ comeback from almost a 2 decade hiatus.
In case you didn’t know, BMW produced the 8 Series model from 1989 to 1999. It is a luxurious coupe that’s powered either by a V8 or a V12 engine.
The 21st century model offers a distinct look compared to BMW's current lineup. Of course, the split kidney grille still dominates the center of the vehicle but it is made even lower and larger. Apart from this, it has large side air vents and slim aggressive-looking ‘laser’ headlights.
The rear boasts a set of sharp taillights. It also has vents, which extend further down to the trapezoidal exhaust tips.
The forthcoming BMW 8 Series Coupe will demonstrate that razor-sharp dynamics and modern luxury can go hand-in-hand. This will be the next model in the expansion of our luxury-car offering and will raise the benchmark for coupes in the segment,” said BMW AG Chairman of the Board of Management Harald Krüger.
"Emotional," as how the German automaker describes it, the cabin features a blend of luxury and modern dynamics. It also sports a 'fluid' orientation of the dashboard, all the way to the doors, as well as an advanced sporty ambience with a digital instrument panel. The center console, on the other hand, gets a highlight of carbon fiber.
Talk about comfort, BMW gave the Concept 8 Series a style to stand out. The Merino fine leather-wrapped seats are supported by carbon fiber shells that form its basic seating structure. The steering wheel goes well with the interior design with its polished aluminum spokes and dark leather.
As for the powertrain, BMW has yet to announce the Concept 8 Series’ engine. For now, all we can do is admire it in a distance. The 8 Series is scheduled to make its comeback sometime in 2018.
