The BYD Atto 3 gets a comprehensive upgrade for 2026

More power, all-wheel drive, and an 800V system are included in this update.

Last year, BYD gave its Atto 3 crossover an update, but as far as updates go, it featured subtle changes to the exterior along with a fresh set of wheels. This time around, however, the changes are major, and we really mean that.

The latest Atto 3 sticks with the 2025 model’s design, which comes as no surprise. What is new is underneath: the electric crossover now rides on the latest e-Platform 3.0 with a more advanced electrical architecture. Upgraded from a 400V setup, the 2026 model—known in Europe as the Atto 3 Evo—features an 800V system that enhances driving range, boosts charging speeds, and improves the vehicle’s V2L capabilities.

When it comes to its electric setup, BYD went all in. The brand has combined eight key components into a single unit, including the drive motor, transmission, onboard charger, DC-DC converter, Vehicle Control Unit, Battery Management System, Motor Control Unit, and Power Distribution Unit. To make it simpler to digest, it is an 8-in-1 electric powertrain, and BYD says it is the first mass-produced system of its kind. One big result of that upgrade is the shift from front-wheel drive to rear-wheel drive in the single-motor entry-level version. Power also climbs from 201 hp and 310 Nm to a stronger 308 hp and 380 Nm.

There is also a new dual-motor, all-wheel-drive version that produces 442 hp and 580 Nm of torque. In this configuration, the Atto 3 can sprint from zero to 100 km/h in just 3.9 seconds. The RWD version completes the same run in 5.5 seconds.

The 74.8 kWh battery is standard for both the RWD and AWD models.  The RWD model can travel up to 510 km, while the AWD version can reach up to 470 km. Thanks to the new high-voltage system, DC fast charging supports up to 220 kW, allowing the battery to charge from 10 to 80 percent in just 25 minutes. Other upgrades include a new multi-link rear suspension for improved ride and handling.

Inside, the interior looks largely familiar but comes with a few key updates. It gets a new steering wheel, a column-mounted gear selector that frees up center console space, plus new features like a head-up display and heated rear seats. The front seats have been redesigned with adjustable headrests, joined by a new 8.8-inch digital cluster. The 15.6-inch touchscreen is retained, but without the rotating function. On the upside, it now supports built-in Google services. There is also added storage thanks to a new frunk, and safety is upgraded with seven airbags alongside standard ADAS.

The updated Atto 3 is headed first to the European, Australian, and UK markets. With such a comprehensive upgrade, we hope the Philippines is next on the Atto 3’s destination list.
