Van life, but make it hybrid. After launching the Tang DM-i last month, BYD Cars Philippines now expands its plug-in hybrid lineup with the new eMAX9 DM-i MPV. This 7-seater van offers plenty of space, modern tech, and strong performance, making it a practical pick for those who want a family van that’s also fuel-efficient.
The eMAX9 is based on the Denza D9 and is the same model as the BYD Xia from earlier this year. It runs on a hybrid setup powered by a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine that works with an electric motor producing 267 hp and 315 Nm of torque. Buyers can choose between two battery sizes: a 20.4 kWh pack for the Advanced variant or a 36.6 kWh battery for the top-spec Premium.
The smaller battery gives up to 95 km of electric driving and up to 945 km total range. Meanwhile, the Premium can go up to 170 km on battery power and offers more than 1,000 km of combined driving range. Both come with a 7kW AC charger and a DC fast charger, 41 kW for the Advanced and 43 kW for the Premium. Charging from 15 percent to 100 percent using AC takes 3 to 5 hours, depending on the variant, while a DC charger can refill 30 percent to 80 percent in just 30 minutes.
Inside, the eMAX9 comes with captain seats in the second row for both variants. In the Premium, these seats are power-adjustable and come with lumbar support, side wing headrests, and leg rests. The Advanced gets the same layout but with manual adjustments. Both have a 60:40 third-row bench that can be folded for extra space, with the Premium again offering powered functions.
Safety-wise, the Premium variant comes standard with BYD’s DiPilot system, which includes adaptive cruise control, forward and rear collision warnings, automatic braking, lane assist, blind spot monitoring, intelligent high beams, and more.
When it comes to size, the eMAX9 is 5,145 mm long, 1,970 mm wide, and 1,805 mm tall, with a wheelbase of 3,045 mm. Ground clearance is 157 mm, and it has a 5.7-meter turning radius, good numbers for a van this large.
The Premium also adds massage features to the ventilated seats for both the driver and second-row, while the Advanced only has ventilation for the driver. Other features include full leather seats, three-zone climate control, tray tables, a sunroof, 50W wireless charging, smart entry, a 360-degree camera, parking sensors, a power tailgate, and several USB and Type-C ports. Entertainment and controls are handled by a 15.6-inch touchscreen with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. It also comes with BYD Cloud Services, over-the-air updates, voice control, and 4G connectivity. Depending on the variant, you get either an 8-speaker or 12-speaker sound system.
Starting at PHP 2,678,000, the BYD eMAX9 DM-i gives you space, comfort, and long driving range in one fuel-saving ride. If you want more tech and features, you should go for the Premium at PHP 2,998,000. Check out its full specs and the rest of the BYD lineup now on AutoDeal.com.ph!
