BYD Philippines marks Sealion 6 DM-i's 2nd anniversary with drive-in cinema experience

The Sealion 6 DM-i turns two this year in the Philippines, and to mark the occasion, BYD Cars Philippines held an owners’ gathering that traded the usual showroom setting for an outdoor movie night at Ayala Malls Trinoma.

More than 60 Sealion 6 DM-i owners took part in the Drive-In Cinema event, arriving as part of a multi-point convoy that brought together participants from different parts of Luzon. The group made stops at BYD Manila Bay, BYD Sta. Rosa, and Shell Mobility Mexico Southbound, which is home to an ACMobility charging station, before heading to the main celebration area.

The gathering highlighted the growing community surrounding the plug-in hybrid crossover. The official BYD Sealion 6 Facebook community now has more than 25,000 active members nationwide, with owners regularly using the platform to exchange experiences, tips, and information about their vehicles.

The Sealion 6 DM-i has remained one of BYD’s more popular models in the Philippines since its introduction. It was the first model in the local market to use the brand’s Super DM-i plug-in hybrid technology, combining electric and gasoline power with a claimed total range of more than 1,000 km on a full charge and full tank.

For owners, that combination has made electrified motoring more practical for everyday use, particularly for drivers who remain concerned about charging infrastructure and range. One example is owner Seth Tullao, who has accumulated 77,000 km on his stock Sealion 6 DM-i since purchasing the vehicle in 2024.

Aside from its hybrid powertrain, the Sealion 6 DM-i is equipped with a range of driver assistance features and Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) functionality. The model also carries five-star safety ratings from both ANCAP and Euro NCAP. Its combination of fuel efficiency, technology, and practicality helped it earn the 2025 Car of the Year award from the Philippine EV Community.

The anniversary celebration also served to show how much the Sealion 6 Owners Club has grown over the past two years. What started as a small group for owners looking to exchange their experiences has developed into one of the more active automotive communities in the country, with regular meetups and gatherings giving members an opportunity to share insights from their time behind the wheel.

"Two years ago, we started with a handful of owners who simply wanted a place to share their experience with the Sealion 6 DM-i," said Edward Salas, President of the BYD Sealion 6 Club. "Today, we're a much larger community that is bound by a shared passion for electrified driving."

For the event, BYD Cars Philippines teamed up with the Cultural Center of the Philippines to feature the Cinemalaya Philippine Independent Film Festival. Fast food giant McDonald’s and Taters also joined the anniversary gathering as event partners, adding food and entertainment to the drive-in cinema experience.

With the Sealion 6 DM-i now entering its third year in the Philippine market, the anniversary event could be a sign of where buyers are headed. With electrified cars becoming more accessible, communities like the Sealion 6 DM-i club could grow even more.
