The full-size hybrid crossover uses BYD’s Super DM-i system, offering 197 hp, 315 Nm torque, and seating for seven

Nearly a month ago, BYD teased its biggest DM-i SUV for the local market. Now, the Tang DM-i has officially launched, giving a clear look at its size, hybrid powertrain, and features.

The Tang DM-i measures 4,870 mm long, 1,950 mm wide, and 1,725 mm tall, with a wheelbase of 2,820 mm. It has a ground clearance of 160 mm, a turning circle of 11.8 m, and a curb weight of 2,130 kg. Cargo space starts at 235 liters and goes up to 1,655 liters with the rear seats folded.

Under the hood is the BYD Super DM-i hybrid setup that pairs a 1.5-liter turbo engine, used as a generator, with a permanent magnet synchronous motor. The system produces 200 PS, which converts to 197 hp, and 315 Nm of torque, all sent to the front wheels. This setup gives the Tang DM-i strong pulling power while helping keep fuel use lower than that of regular crossovers

Powering the hybrid system is BYD’s Blade battery with a capacity of 21.5 kWh. The lithium iron phosphate battery is known for its durability and safety. Charging can be done using Type 2 or CCS ports, with a maximum charging rate of 7 kW on AC and 40 kW on DC. AC charging takes about three hours from 15 to 100 percent, while DC fast charging takes about 30 minutes from 30 to 80 percent. The Tang DM-i also comes with vehicle-to-load capability.

On the road, it offers three drive modes: Economy, Normal, and Sport. It can accelerate from zero to 100 km/h in 7.5 seconds and reach a top speed of 200 km/h. Its electric-only range is rated at 110 km under the NEDC cycle, with an extended total range of up to 1,160 km.

The Tang DM-i has a seven-seat layout with a leather-trimmed interior. The driver’s seat is eight-way powered with heating and ventilation, while the front passenger seat is four-way powered. The second row has a 60:40 split-fold, and the third row can be folded flat. The cabin is also equipped with dual-zone auto climate control with vents for the rear passengers. Other cabin features include an expansive 15.6-inch touchscreen, a panoramic sunroof, and a power tailgate. Meanwhile, safety features include, but are not limited to, a 360-degree camera, four rear parking sensors, four front parking sensors, adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking (AEB), Blind Spot Monitoring (BSM), and Lane Departure Assistance (LDA), among many others.

Before Christmas carols fill the air, BYD has already brought out something new for families with the Tang DM-i. Check out its full specs at AutoDeal.com.ph, where you can also get a quote without leaving your home.
