It looks like BYD has something new in the works that’s not a sedan or a crossover. The BYD Sealion 5 DM-i was recently granted homologation papers by the LTO, as reported by TopGear, which means it could soon be sold in the Philippines.
The Sealion 5 is officially listed as a wagon, something we rarely see in the local market. It made its debut in China last September 2024, and just a few weeks ago, reports came out that BYD was preparing a new wagon-type hybrid. Some thought it might be the Seal 6 DM-i, but it looks like this new Sealion 5 is the one that’s on its way. This could be BYD Philippines and ACMobility’s next release for 2025. The Sealion nameplate is already doing well locally, so adding a wagon to the lineup might help attract buyers looking for something more practical but still electrified.
Design-wise, the Sealion 5 looks like a mix of the Seal 5 in front and the eMAX 7 at the back, creating a sleek wagon look that’s both sporty and practical. Two variants are expected: the Dynamic and the Premium. Both will have the same performance, using a 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine with a plug-in hybrid setup. Each one can go up to 71 km on electric power alone, and both can hit a top speed of 170 km/h.

Similar to the past BYD models, the Premium trim is expected to get advanced driver-assistance features such as adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, and blind spot detection. Meanwhile, the base Dynamic variant will likely come with manual cruise control and basic parking sensors.
We’re still waiting for BYD and ACMobility to confirm anything, but with their recent MPV launch, this new model could mean they’re adding more practical choices to their lineup. Until then, see what BYD has to offer today on AutoDeal.com.ph.
