BYD’s YangWang U9 is an all-electric supercar we’d love to see on Philippine roads

Gone are the days when Chinese-made cars were met with skepticism. Here in the Philippines, more and more people are warming up to them—and for good reason. Chinese brands are stepping up in quality, design, and tech while still being relatively affordable. Leading the charge is BYD, one of the fastest-growing automakers in the world, especially in the EV scene.

Here in the Philippines, BYD has been making waves with models like the Seal 5 DM-i, Dolphin, and the quirky but practical Seagull. They’re solid, everyday cars packed with features, and they’re helping to normalize the shift toward electric vehicles. But let’s talk about something that gets every car enthusiast’s heart racing: performance.

The performance EV scene in the Philippines is still in its infancy. Sure, we’ve seen a few high-powered models roll in, but there’s so much room for growth. And that’s where BYD could seriously shake things up, thanks to their wild creation—the YangWang U9.

For those who don’t know, YangWang is BYD’s luxury arm. Think of it as BYD’s version of Lexus. It’s a young, ambitious brand that straddles the line between luxury and performance, and their latest supercar, the U9, is turning heads.

Unveiled at the 2025 Singapore Motorshow, the YangWang U9 is an electric supercar with jaw-dropping specs. This beast boasts 1,300hp and 1,680Nm of torque, enough to launch it from 0-100 km/h in just 2.36 seconds. It shares BYD’s innovative cell-to-body chassis tech with the Seal and has a range of 450 km. Top speed? A whopping 309 km/h.

Inside, the U9 is all about lightweight performance, with a carbon-fiber construction and advanced driving tech. Forget your typical infotainment screen—YangWang went all-in with an intelligent racing system that maps out racetracks and provides data for the ultimate driving experience. Suspension and torque are managed by BYD’s DiSus-X Intelligent Body Control System and their e4 Platform, ensuring smooth and precise handling even at ridiculous speeds.

It’s an incredible car, and we can’t help but hope to see it here in the Philippines someday. That said, it’s unlikely to launch anytime soon, as YangWang is still focused on the Chinese market. But hey, we can dream, right?
