Nowadays, more Filipinos are choosing electric cars, like the BYD Seagull or the Tesla Model Y, and Kia is joining in with new electric cars soon. The carmaker is planning to launch an electric version of a small city car similar to the Picanto, and a performance model to follow the Stinger.
With the rise in interest in electric vehicles in the Philippines, especially smaller ones like the BYD Seagull and JAC Ytterby, and luxury models like the AION ES, BYD Han, and Tesla Model Y, Kia’s new models seem promising and could be just what Filipino buyers are looking for.The company is considering launching a new compact electric vehicle that would be similar to the Picanto. The new EV is still a few years away from hitting the roads as Kia focuses first on launching the EV2, a mini car set to be priced below approximately P1.8M, around 2026. Kia aims to eventually offer an electric city car priced between P900k and P1.2M, though they acknowledge this is a hard challenge.
On the performance side, Kia is also planning to replace the Stinger with an electric model that could lead their performance lineup. This plan shows Kia's commitment to not only making electric cars more accessible but also more thrilling. The new model would likely be more powerful than the current EV6 GT, which boasts 576 hp.
In both cases, Kia really knows what customers want and what the market needs. The Philippines is getting ready for more electric cars, which makes it a great time for Kia to bring out new models here, hopefully. Introducing a small electric city car and a high-performance electric sedan could make Kia a big name in the Philippines, able to meet all kinds of needs for Filipino drivers. Right now, Kia’s local lineup is definitely worth checking out. You can see all the models by clicking here.
