MPT South News

When the holiday season begins, no road in the metro is safe, not even expressways. Metro Pacific Tollways South (MPT South) recognizes that the holiday cheer also brings with it heavy traffic, so with that in mind it's bracing for the anticipated surge in travelers on the Manila-Cavite Expressway (CAVITEX), including its C5 Link segment, and Cavite-Laguna Expressway (CALAX).

According to MPT South, during the third to last week of December 2023, the toll company foresees a 15 percent to 20 percent upswing in traffic on CAVITEX, particularly from motorists in Cavite heading towards Manila. Right now, the projected daily traffic count is 181,000 cars, but MPT South is predicting it will jump to 208,000 vehicles.

Over at CALAX, MPT South anticipates a 35 percent surge in traffic, climbing to 47,000 from the previous year's 35,000 figures. This increase is linked to travelers from Manila heading towards Tagaytay and neighboring cities and municipalities, facilitated by the recently opened Silang (Aguinado) Interchange.

Since it’s a sure thing that MPT South’s road network will be filled with holiday travelers, MPT South will activate a 'high-alert' status and bolster its "Safe Trip Mo, Sagot Ko" motorist assistance program deployed during peak holiday periods across its high-speed road networks. In addition, if any road user happens to experience some mechanical mishap on the expressway, MPT South will also be providing a free towing service for Class 1 vehicles up to the nearest exit.

“As we gear up to ensure a safe and smooth journey for our motorists this holiday season, we advise everyone to plan their trips and check their vehicle’s health to avoid untoward incidents. We also encourage our motorists to take advantage of using their Easytrip RFID for quicker toll transactions, and even stand a chance to win in our MPTC’s Happy Holideals promo if they reload their account via MPT DriveHub App.”

This program will be in effect from 6:00 AM on December 22 to 6:00 AM on December 24, 2023; 6:00 AM on December 26 to 6:00 AM on December 27, 2023; and from 6:00 AM on December 30, 2023, to 6:00 AM on January 2, 2024.

We’re all excited to connect with family and friends this holiday season so getting to our destination safe and sound should be at the top of our priorities. Much like how MPT South is prepping for traffic, drivers should prepare and plan their trips. Check your cars but most importantly, check yourself at the beginning of every road trip.
