Changan has done an admirable job touting the CS35 Plus as a world-class crossover. The vehicle has reportedly made waves among enthusiast circles for its European-inspired looks, well-designed interior, fuel economy, and spirited performance.
While the CS35 Plus recently received an impressive refresh, the outgoing model paved the way by overcoming a series of extraordinary obstacles and challenges. It started with the first-ever Changan Nationwide Test Drive, which took the crossover on a grueling, three-month tour across the Philippines.
The CS35 Plus also powered through a brutal, 122-day 100,000 km endurance test drive in 2020 in which it took on mixed terrain and different driving conditions. With periodic maintenance done every 10,000 km, the crossover shook things off and emerged in prime running condition.
On top of those events, Changan also took the CS35 Plus on a fuel economy run sanctioned by the Automobile Association of the Philippines (APP). For two days in July 2021, the crossover achieved a stunning 21.432 km/L during highway testing. The route took the vehicle through Balagtas NLEX Northbound to SCTEX and back.
Of course, Changan also had to test the CS35 Plus in city driving conditions. The APP conducted another test in August 2021, taking the crossover through Makati, Pasay, Manila, Quezon City, and back, logging 90.8 km with a 13.548 km/L average consumption.
From what it has achieved over the past year and more, the Changan CS35 Plus appears to be a capable crossover that's worthy of our attention. What's under the hood, you may ask? It's the 1.4-liter turbocharged Changan BlueCore engine that, on the newest model, delivers 160 hp and 260 Nm of torque.
According to Changan, its patented internal combustion system reduces fuel consumption by 20 percent and carbon emissions by 40 percent, all without noticeable performance loss. It is reportedly among the top engines in China today.
The Changan CS35 Plus looks good and performs well. With attractive features like full-LED lighting, a panoramic sunroof, two-tone leather seats, a 10-inch touchscreen display, and more, the crossover seems like a steal starting at P898,000.
Plus, an advanced active safety suite that includes adaptive cruise control, autonomous emergency braking, and front collision warning makes the deal even better.
We also can't forget Changan's Vital-5 after-sales package, which includes a five-year or 100,000-km mileage warranty, roadside assistance with towing service, a 60-minute service guarantee with free PMS labor for the first year, or 20,000 km (whichever comes first). There's also the Changan Veloservice. It allows owners to book service appointments online with help from CAIA, the brand's AI chatbot.
For everything Changan offers potential customers, it looks like future owners of the new CS35 Plus are in for an enjoyable and secure experience.
