Chevrolet’s all-new Groove debuts in the Philippines

Following the launch of the Captiva late last year, Chevrolet is adding another vehicle to its local lineup. Folks, meet the all-new Chevrolet Groove, the American brand’s contender for the subcompact crossover segment in the country.

Before we go over its features and mechanical innards, let’s talk about the exterior. Despite what the name suggests, the Chevy Groove has a serious design, characterized by sleek lines, a prominent grille, two-tone alloy wheels, and a blacked-out roof. 

Sharp LED headlights with Chevrolet’s Intellibeam feature define the front end, accompanied by LED daytime running lights (DRLs) flanking the sides. Along the sides, the Groove features black cladding on the wheel arches and matching black side skirts that visually connect the lower front lip to the rear bumper. The rear is just as assertive as the front, with sleek LED taillights and a rear spoiler that adds a sporty touch to this subcompact crossover.

Inside, the Groove has enough seating for five people and an array of safety and convenience features. For starters, the Groove is equipped with a 10.25-inch infotainment screen with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity paired with six speakers. Interior comfort is managed by an electronic climate control with a feature Chevrolet calls AC Max. Other interior amenities include power-adjust seats for the driver, leather upholstery, and an electric sunroof. The cargo carrying capacity of the Groove is 436 liters with the rear seats down and can expand up to 1,120 liters with them down.

Safety features, meanwhile, include six airbags, ISOFIX anchors, speed-sensing door locks, rear parking sensors, hill-start assist, ABS, electronic brakeforce distribution, traction control, electronic stability control, and a tire pressure monitoring system.

As for driver aids, the Groove is also well equipped with tech like adaptive cruise control, traffic jam assist, automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning, lane departure warning, lane departure prevention, and emergency lane keeping. 

Moving to the heart of the Groove, let’s discuss the drivetrain. Powering this crossover is a turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine that puts out 145 hp and 255 Nm of torque paired with a CVT. Braking power comes from a set of disc brakes, ventilated discs up front, and solid discs at the rear. In terms of dimensions, the Groove is 4,365 mm long, 1,750 mm wide, and 1,610 mm high, with a ground clearance that’s 155 mm. 

Price? The Chevrolet Groove is available with an introductory price of P1,156,000 for the sole RS variant until further notice. Now available at all Chevrolet dealerships nationwide, this stylish new subcompact crossover is sure to make choosing your next car a little more challenging.
