Over the past decade, BYD has evolved from a battery manufacturer into one of the most influential players in the global electrification race. Unlike many carmakers that rely heavily on third-party suppliers, BYD develops much of its core technology in-house, particularly batteries and hybrid systems. That level of vertical integration gives it unusual control over cost, scalability, and innovation.
Denza represents the premium expression of that capability. Originally established as a joint venture between BYD and Daimler, it has since matured into a standalone premium marque under BYD’s direction. In the Philippines, Denza operates under BYD Philippines Corporation, separate from ACMobility’s BYD Cars Philippines, signaling a distinct positioning strategy for the brand locally.
Its first model here, the Denza D9, enters one of the most image-driven segments in the market. It goes head-to-head with established nameplates such as the Toyota Alphard and Lexus LM, but approaches the formula from a technology-first standpoint.
At the core of the D9 is BYD’s DM-i range-extended hybrid system paired with dual electric motors. The setup prioritizes electric propulsion in most driving scenarios, with the combustion engine acting primarily as an efficient energy source. The claimed maximum range is 980km, positioning it as a long-distance capable electrified MPV without the dependency on a fully public charging network.
The cabin reflects a similar philosophy of low-stress mobility. All three rows are finished in Nappa leather, and the layout emphasizes passenger comfort over visual theatrics. Multiple seats feature power adjustment and cooling, while the second-row captain’s chairs deliver the level of comfort typically associated with chauffeur-driven vehicles. Screens and charging ports are integrated throughout, aligning the experience with modern connectivity expectations.
The D9 is priced at P4.298 million, with an introductory offer of P3.998 million for the first 300 customers. Ownership includes an 8-year/150,000km battery warranty, 24/7 roadside assistance, 3 years of free preventive maintenance, and both an AC wall charger and portable charger.
For buyers, the significance goes beyond a new badge. It signals that electrified premium mobility is no longer niche or experimental. It is increasingly the default direction of the segment.
