The Department of Transportation (DOTr) has announced the construction of three EDSA Busway concourses. The government agency has stated that these state-of-the-art facilities will change the way commuters travel in the area and will help give EDSA a fresh new look. The DOTr also partnered with SM Prime on the project as the concourses will be located near SM malls. These facilities will be located at SM North EDSA, Megamall, and at the Mall of Asia area.
I’m giving my heartfelt thanks because, at last, the public will see real change on EDSA through the EDSA Busway Concourse. It will be safer for passengers to get on and off vehicles.
Tugade continues by stating that “It will be more convenient to take a ride because there will be ticket booths, a concierge, and turnstiles for the automatic fare collection system. Our system will be friendly to our senior citizens and persons with challenges and disabilities.”
The DOTr also further emphasizes that these new concourses will ensure that the commuting experience in these areas will be safe and convenient as well. Special considerations have also been made to make it easier for senior citizens, persons with disabilities, and pregnant women to utilize the new facilities as well.
As new transportation hubs in the area, the three facilities will have ticketing booths, automatic fare collection system turnstiles, and concierges. These will all help expedite the process of loading and unloading passengers who will want to use the EDSA busway system. As the busway system is already proving to be an efficient mode of transportation along the busy thoroughfare. The addition of these concourses will further enhance its efficiency.
The government agency has yet to announce an official completion date for the project, however, we could expect to see these concourses done within the next two years. With that said, as the transportation system slowly evolves in the area we can expect to see commuting times drop drastically in the next few years.
