But first, it’s time for a little #ThrowBackRaceday. During the series’ championship-deciding penultimate round, held last October 26, everything and everyone was on an absolute celebratory mode, as the class champions for the GT300, GT150, and GT100 classes stood atop the podium.
Bagging the GT300 title was Don Don Portugal. By dominating the series’ first four rounds, plus those consistent podium finishes, Portugal eventually found momentum and took the points lead. Meanwhile, it’s still a hot three-way battle between Veli-Matti Kaikkonen, Jomari Yllana, and Willie Torres, as they’ll score things out for the final time this year, aiming for the second and third podium places.
Down the line in the GT200 class, an equally-heated three-way battle rages on, as Ethanworx R33 teammates Paolo Mantolino and Carlos Anton will duke it out with Joey Perry for the class championship title. With just 51 points between them, the series’ final round will surely be an action-packed edge-of-the-seat event to witness.
Having already won this year’s GT150 title in the fifth round via a 96-point advantage, De La Rosa will still gun it all the way to the finish
A torrent of highly-committed fighting spirit reigns supreme in the GT150 and GT100 classes, as Richmon De La Rosa and Edwin Rodriguez clearly demonstrate. Having already won this year’s GT150 title in the fifth round via a 96-point advantage, De La Rosa will still gun it all the way to the finish, giving rivals Joel Portugal and Walter Zamora a thrilling fight. The same “no-holds-barred” attitude will be embodied by GT100’s Edwin Rodriguez, who, with his Mazda Philippines sponsored Mazda2 have valiantly claimed the class championship title with one round to spare.
Looking forward, the wide corners and long straights of the Batangas Racing Circuit will come alive once again this December 13-14, as the epic conclusion of the 2014 Yokohama Philippine GT Championship will unfold, starting with a 10-lap Sprint Race in the morning, and followed by a 17-lap Main GT race in the afternoon. Other support races like the Philminiracers Championship Series, the VW KaFER Cup, and the newly-formed Sparco Bracket Circuit Racing Series will all be capped off as well, giving racing aficionados an advanced Christmas gift, worthy of passionate cheers!
