For the first time ever, the 2018 Federation Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA) Sport Conference will happen in Asia. More specifically, it will be hosted by the Automobile Association Philippines (AAP) in Manila this June 4 to 6. Among the many guests expected to arrive, motorsport fans will be excited to know that ex-Formula 1 race car driver Felipe Massa will be coming here to challenge local talent.
The FIA will be bringing six e-karts during the event. Massa will then set a hot lap for local karters and select guest drivers to beat. Apart from the e-karting demo, other motorsport activities such as drifting, gymkhana, and an online Gran Turismo Asian Championship finals will take place at the SM Mall of Asia grounds in Pasay City.
In addition, there will be an expected 500 delegates from 245 FIA member clubs in 143 countries who will attend the event and discuss the future of motorsport globally.
Massa, who drove for Sauber, Ferrari, and Williams during his career, officially retired from F1 when his contract expired last year. The Brazilian had a total of 269 Grand Prix starts, scoring 11 wins, 41 podiums, 16 pole positions, and 15 fastest laps. In 2008, Massa was 1-point away from becoming the World Driver’s Champion but was beaten on the last lap of the last race of the season by a young Lewis Hamilton.
