Indian sources are reporting that the production of the Suzuki Jimny Five-Door will commence this April. The production run of the five-door model will span 100,000 units per year, with the purported split between domestic and export units being 66 percent domestic to 34 percent export.
The Jimny Five-Door already has its order books filled to the brim. The line for the new small SUV in India is apparently 18,000 orders long. India will first fulfill its orders before prioritizing exports to other countries. With 66 percent of the factory’s production capacity being assigned to domestic sales, the rest of the world might have to wait a little longer before they get even a hint of a launch for the Jimny.
For the rest of the world, the factory’s putting 34 percent of its capacity towards exports to other countries, which includes the Philippines. Provided that there will be no production delays, we can expect the Jimny Five-Door to come to other countries late this year or early next year, the Philippines included.
According to local sources, the Jimny Five-Door could be coming to the country by 2024, in the year’s first quarter. Should no production delays be incurred by the brand, we can expect that the projected reveal date of the Jimny Five-Door is on schedule to happen.
There are already plenty of Jimny fans here in the country, with the model receiving cult status even with its rather limited interior space. However, the introduction of a five-door model would spell yet another boon for Suzuki Philippines, as the added practicality and space of the longer model could push some wannabe buyers over the edge. We may also expect a number of three-door owners to trade up to the five-door, which could be good for the second-hand market. We’re speculating at this point, but the fact is that the Jimny Five-Door is well on its way, and we’re excited to see it coming.
