Ford replaces the 2.0-liter bi-turbo with an upgraded single-turbo engine and wider V6 options.

If you’re planning to buy a Ford Ranger or Everest, here’s something to watch out for. Ford Australia has announced that the 2.0-liter bi-turbo diesel engine will no longer be used in future versions of the Ranger and Everest. Instead, the company will offer an upgraded version of the single-turbo 2.0-liter diesel, which will now be available on both models. The 3.0-liter V6 diesel will also be offered on more variants than before.

The new single-turbo engine will be paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission, replacing the current six-speed. It will also get a new fuel injection system and a timing chain for better long-term use. While Ford hasn’t shared the final power numbers yet, the updated single-turbo is expected to perform better than its current 168 hp and 405 Nm, but still lower than the bi-turbo’s 207 hp and 500 Nm.

For the first time, the single-turbo engine will also be available in the Everest, where it will compete with entry-level SUVs like the Isuzu MU-X, which has a 2.2-liter engine with 161 hp and 400 Nm, paired with an eight-speed automatic.

Ford also shared that the 3.0-liter V6 diesel will soon be available on more trims, giving buyers more options for power without needing to go for the top variants. More details on this will be shared in another update. There are no changes planned for the Ranger Raptor’s 3.0L twin-turbo V6 petrol engine or the Ranger PHEV’s 2.3-liter turbo petrol. There are no changes planned for the Ranger Raptor’s 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 petrol engine or the Ranger PHEV’s 2.3-liter turbo petrol.

Ford first introduced the 2.0-liter EcoBlue engine in 2018 as a replacement for the older 2.2-liter Duratorq diesel. The single-turbo version was added to the Ranger lineup in 2022 during the launch of the current-generation model in Australia.

So far, fuel economy and emissions figures for the updated engine haven’t been released, but it’s expected to be more efficient and may meet the stricter Euro 6 standards. Starting July 1, 2028, Australia will require all new vehicles to follow this rule, likely using AdBlue to help reduce diesel emissions. The changes are expected to roll out in Australia by the first half of 2026.

No word yet on whether these changes will affect the Philippine lineup. Ford Philippines still sells the Ranger and Everest with the single-turbo, bi-turbo, and V6 diesel options. But since the bi-turbo is being removed in Australia, there’s a chance the Philippines might follow later on. If you’re planning to get one, now’s your chance.
