Ford Group Philippines (FGP) closed 2017 with a year-over-year sales increase of 9%, which totals to 36,623 vehicles. Much of the credit was from its record performance last December, wherein the American brand sold 4,629 units – besting the same month in 2016 by 45%.
The numbers were vastly contributed by the Ford Everest, EcoSport, and Ranger. All 3 models, which showed quite a performance over the past years, were able to retain the title of being the 3 best-sellers under the blue oval brand.
“The Everest, EcoSport, and Ranger continued to drive our retail performance in 2017 and remain among the leaders in their respective, highly competitive vehicle segments. We’re confident that we’ll carry our sales momentum into this year, while further building on our Ford customer and ownership service experience.”
The Everest midsize SUV remains as the brand’s top-selling nameplate for 2017. As a matter of fact, the Everest even won the AutoDeal Buyer's Choice award as the SUV of the Year because its sales performance. It yielded 1,582 sales in December, which is a 48% growth compared to the record in 2016. This increase pushed the Everest's full-year sales to reach 12,455 units.
The EcoSport's year-over-year sales, on the other hand, rose by 13% compared to 2016. In total, FGP was able to deliver 11,299 EcoSports out of the dealers and onto its customers for the entire 2017. On a month-to-month basis, the subcompact crossover improved by 29% in December 2017, where it yielded 1,450 sales.
Meanwhile, the Ranger continues to perform well with 31% full-year sales growth. The American pickup truck still remains to be the country's 2nd best in the segment, as it was able to amass 10,658 sales for the whole 2017. This output was capped by its 1,433 sales in December, which is 87% more compared from the same month in 2016.
In addition to these, the Explorer premium SUV and the Mustang delivered positive outcomes to end 2017. The Explorer had a 9% increase on a full-year basis, which equates to 1,125 units. As for the Mustang, FGP was able to roll 407 units out of its showrooms – 28% higher compared with the previous year.
Aside from its consistently growing annual sales, FGP has successfully expanded its local dealerships to 46 in total. The new showrooms in Roxas, Dumaguete, and Surigao could have contributed to Ford’s positive sales performance last year. Another possible factor was the Tax Reform for Acceleration and Inclusion (TRAIN), which was also seen during AutoDeal’s end-of-year sales rush last December 29.
