Ford Philippines is introducing the Ranger XLS Sport variant, a marginal upgrade to the already capable Ranger XLS. The model includes design upgrades that make this pickup more striking on the road or in the parking lot.
Starting off with the wheels, a set of 17-inch alloy wheels are what this midsize pickup roll on. A coat of black paint emphasize the ‘sport’ in the variant’s name. The rear bumper also gets a fresh coat of glossy black paint. Moving over to the front, and you notice that the front has also been given the same coat of paint. The sides have step boards as well, which aid passengers during ingress and egress.
Underneath, the engine remains the same. The tried and true 2.2L TDCi diesel engine still hums in the engine bay. At 157hp with 385 Nm of torque, this truck remains capable of handling the day to day tasks whether hauling for the home or for the business. A 6-speed manual transmission ensures a smooth and more enjoyable drive across any road condition.
Unlike other manual models, which are likely devoid of driver assists, this unit comes equipped with an anti-lock braking system (ABS) with electronic brakeforce distribution (EBD), cruise control, front driver and passenger airbags, and ISOFIX child seat anchors. Maximum safety and comfort also extend to the head unit because this model has ford SYNC, the hands-free infotainment system from Ford.
The new Ranger XLS Sport is definitely a welcome addition to our already extensive Ranger lineup in the country, catering to customers with more utilitarian needs. It remains one of the most powerful and performance-bred pickup trucks in the market today with a more striking and recognizable exterior while still retaining the same Built Ford Tough features that our customers have grown to love.
The new Ford Ranger XLS Sport is available in two variants. The 4x4 MT variant will be priced at P1,211,000, and the 4x2 MT variant can be yours for P1,062,000. Five colors will be available, with Arctic White, Absolute Black, Aluminum Metallic, Meteor Grey, and True Red.
The XLS presents good value for those looking for a 4x4 system on a budget. Although you will have to make do with driving a stick, there is no denying that a 4x4 system at this price is unheard of in the market.
