Pickups have been a compelling choice for many local buyers of today, given its esteemed points as to load capability and dependable on and off road performance. Locally, its segment is flooded with several options including the Ford Ranger, which is undoubtedly one of the strong contenders in its segment, not only locally but also in other countries belonging within the Asia Pacific region. Its sales figures have soared, achieving an all-time 2018 sales record for the tenth consecutive year, with retail sales increasing by five percent from the previous year to 139,501 vehicles.
Those positive numbers were driven by its best-ever full-year performance in Thailand, with sales jumping by 25 percent to a record 55,389 vehicles. New Zealand, where sales went up by five percent over its previous year to a record 9,884 vehicles, covered 26 percent of the segment. Figures also show that the Ranger managed to maintain its multi-year title for being the best-selling pickup truck in New Zealand alongside with Vietnam, which commanded a 40 percent segment share with sales of 8,675 units. And finally the Philippines, with its full-year retail sales rising about nine percent to an all-time best of 11,604 vehicles, taking up over 20 percent of the segment.
Moreover, the Ranger also delivered a strong performance in Australia, with sales reaching 42,143 units. The Ranger also earned its prestigious title as to being the number two selling nameplate in Australia and achieved its 40th consecutive month among the top five selling nameplates in the country.
Lastly, Malaysia also contributed a healthy rise of 19 percent from its previous year to 6,664 vehicles. These figures increases its share of the segment by 1.4 percentage points to 15 percent.
These numbers talk great success for the refreshed lineup of the Ford Ranger. Plus, with the much awaited Ranger Raptor creating such of a buzz since its launch across Asia Pacific markets, figures also deliver positive numbers, with the Raptor variant contributing more than 5,030 vehicles for the Ranger’s 2018 sales record.
