When it comes to light commercial vehicles in the Philippines, it isn’t too often that one comes along with a major facelift. More often than not, only minor enhancements or upgrades are given to these vehicles. That being said, Fuso Philippines has announced through its Facebook page that it will be launching the new Canter light-duty truck in the country for 2021.
While the exact details of the new model are still hidden, we can expect the new truck to look like the models available in other markets such as in Japan and in the US. The new truck will likely come with the new futuristic-looking cab design that looks to be more aerodynamically sculpted. Aside from this, the light-duty truck is expected to come with a new headlight design, a new grille, and a new black garnish that comes with the Fuso logo spelled across it. The new truck will also likely come with a redesigned front bumper that may come with fog lights. While other countries already have LED lighting elements for the new Canter, it still remains unknown if the Japanese truck maker will bring that option in for the local truck market.
Aside from the updated looks, the new Canter may also come with a couple of upgrades in terms of safety features. Over in its home country of Japan, the light-duty truck already comes with advanced emergency braking as standard which is smart enough to both detect cars and pedestrians. If this feature will be available locally it could be a game-changer in the market as not many trucks in the Philippines come with safety-oriented features.
As for its engine options, the new Canter could come with a 3.0-liter turbo diesel engine that can be made available in various stages of tune. However, a likely scenario is that the truck will just carry over its existing powerplant. With no official dates being released just yet, we will have to wait for confirmation from Fuso Philippines as to when its new Canter will make its debut.
