GAC AION made its presence known at the 13th Philippine Electric Vehicle Summit (PEVS) with the launch of two new models, the AION V and the HYPTEC HT. Alongside the launch of the aforementioned models, GAC AION also showcased the upcoming UT hatchback.
GAC AION is a separate entity from GAC Motor, a name some of you may already be familiar with. Unlike GAC Motor Philippines, which is distributed by Astara Philippines, GAC AION entered the country at the direction of GAC International Philippines. But enough about that for now, and let’s take a look at the cars they unveiled.
First on the list is the AION V. This one is an electric compact crossover that’s said to target urban professionals and families. The AION V is equipped with GAC’s Magazine Battery 2.0, which is said to be fireproof even under direct impact, according to GAC. This crossover has a CLTC-rated driving range of up to 520 km and can charge from 30 percent to 80 percent in just 16 minutes using a DC fast charger.
In terms of power, the AION V comes in two variants, each with slightly different performance figures. First is the Elite, which produces 181 hp and 240 Nm of torque, followed by the Premium, which produces 221 hp and 240 Nm of torque. Braking power is handled by vented disc brakes at the front and solid disc brakes at the rear for both variants
As for tech, the AION V comes standard with a large 14.6-inch touchscreen infotainment system, an 8.8-inch digital instrument cluster, nine speakers, Apple CarPlay, and a suite of advanced driver assistance systems.
Moving to the next model, we have the HYPTEC HT. This crossover features a fastback body style and gull-wing doors, signaling its premium status. The HT features the same Magazine Battery in the V, but with 83 kWh of capacity, it can reach up to 605 km of range on the NEDC cycle.
Inside, it features plush Nappa leather seats, reclining rear seats, an 8.8-inch digital instrument cluster, and a 14.6-inch touchscreen infotainment system powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8155 processor. Like the V, the HT features an array of advanced driving assistance features as well as a super-strong body constructed out of a hybrid of steel and aluminum. Furthermore, GAC AION says that the HT’s roof can withstand up to 10.5 tons of pressure.
The last car presented by GAC AION is not for sale yet, but it’s expected to come very soon: the GAC AION UT. The automaker hasn’t provided a launch date and price for this hatchback yet, but we can expect it to come packed with advanced driver aids and up to 500 km of range.
